Over 100 judicial officers, academics, psychologists, legal practitioners, public servants and students attended the joint National Judicial College of Australia / Australian National University conference entitled Sentencing: New Challenges on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th March, 2018 on the campus of the ANU in Canberra. The conference provides an opportunity for an examination of sentencing principles and practice from the perspective of the various protagonists involved in the judicial process.
Justice Geoffrey Nettle of the High Court of Australia presented the keynote address on the topic of jurisprudence in the High Court.
The joint conference is an annual event, held in the first weekend of March on the ANU Campus in Canberra. The biennial conference theme is Sentencing. In 2019, the conference will be on the topic of emotions in the law.
