Writing Better Judgments I, April 2027

“I believe that we are tending, to write at unnecessary length. Change will come about only if there is general agreement that ·is so, and if collectively we make a real effort to grapple with the problem. Courts of appeal have to be supportive. In the end, if the time taken by our judgments is partly a self-made problem, then the solution lies in our own hands.” October 1999, The Honourable John Doyle on judgment writing
